What is Freemasonry®?

“Freemasonry® is a beautiful system of morality, veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols”

To the unfamiliar, this statement may seem barren and misguided. Although, to a Freemason, this statement is terse. It is loaded with notions of structure, tools for living upright, and full of precious principles of ethics, all of which are communicated through lessons of OLD .

Above, the rough ashlar and perfect ashlar happens to be one of the many allegories and symbols in Freemasonry®, focusing upon the brass tacks of mankind. It teaches members to “cultivate that moral and spiritual portion of themselves so, they become better members of society. The rough ashlar literally is a stone taken from the quarry in its rude and natural state. It, figuratively, refers to the harsh and imperfect state of a man who is striving to improve himself morally and intellectually.

The perfect ashlar, in the literal sense, is the rough ashlar smoothed, squared, and fitted for the builders use. It demonstrates "that idea state one wishes to achieve within his lifetime." As we all know, no man is perfect yet the principle serves as a goal to help members to personally set goals to strive to be the best regardless of life challenges. Last, the Square, the Compass, and the letter G configuration are thusly, committed to the memory bank of each member, for it's this famous mark of Freemasonry® which teaches all Freemasons the following lesson:

Last, the Square, the Compass, and the letter G configuration are thusly, committed to the memory bank of each member, for it's this famous mark of Freemasonry® which teaches all Freemasons the following lesson:

"The Square is an emblem of morality and one of the working tools of my profession. The Compass circumscribes my actions and keeps me within bounds with all mankind. The letter G alludes to geometry, the fifth science, but more particularly to the sacred name of the Deity in whom I place my trust in and with reverence, most devoutly and humbly bow."

The ceremonies of Freemasonry® were created to guide willing individuals to the acknowledgment of purpose and self-worth. Our oath of fealty guides us to be better men to our Maker, our family, our employer, and overall to our community.

Succinctly, the brotherhood is a charitable group of men. Therefore, every member via our Grand Lodges is dedicated to giving back to the community.
